What is my skin type?

How to find out my skin type?

Understanding your skin type is the first step in caring for your skin.

How to find out my skin type?

There are generally five main skin types: normal, oily, dry, combination, and sensitive.

*Normal skin is characterized by being well-balanced, with no excessive dryness or oiliness. It has a smooth texture, good elasticity and hydration.

*Oily skin is characterized by excess sebum production, which can lead to enlarged pores, shiny skin, and acne.

*Dry skin is characterized by a lack of oil production and can feel tight, itchy, or flaky. It is more prone to wrinkles and fine lines.

*Combination skin is characterized by having both oily and dry areas on the face, typically with oily skin in the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) and dry skin on the cheeks.

*Sensitive skin is characterized by easily getting irritated, red, and itchy. It can be caused by a variety of factors such as genetics, environmental factors or certain skincare products.

Also, skin type can change over time due to various factors such as hormonal changes, diet, and environment.

The tissue test is a simple method to determine your skin type.

It involves pressing a clean tissue against different areas of your face (forehead, nose, chin, cheeks) after cleansing your face in the morning, and observing the amount of oil on the tissue.

If the tissue is mostly dry, with little to no oil, you likely have dry skin.

If the tissue has some oil on it, but not as much as the nose and forehead, you likely have combination skin.

If the tissue has a lot of oil on it, especially in the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin), you likely have oily skin.

If the tissue has no oil on it, and your skin feels tight, itchy or irritated, you likely have sensitive skin.

It’s important to note that this test should be done only in the morning after you wake up and before you apply any products or makeup, as those can alter the results.
